Where artwork is represented as a 'limited Edition' it will be signed by the artist and numbered to identify it as such. (where the artist is deceased, a facsimile or similar may be used)
As a general rule even the most popular of artists should not be in an edition of over 850. Where an artist commands a substantial royalty, or the demand is certain to be greater than availability, editions may be larger but this is rarely the case.
Please also be aware that some limited editions are being produced in different sizes and formats.....a 'small' edition of 195, in two sizes, on paper or canvas, and for export, is actualy a run of over 800 with artists proofs !! We, with some other galleries will as a matter of principal, not stock prints where we feel the edition has been over produced.
Unfortunately there are an increasing number of dubious or forged prints. These are often fairly obvious to the experienced eye but maybe not to customers. A certificate is absolutely no guarantee !! this is easier to copy than the print or the signature.
WE WILL NEVER HANDLE SECOND HAND, THIRD PARTY GOODS OR ANY ITEM NOT OBTAINED DIRECTLY FROM THE ARTIST OR PUBLISHER.
There are many distinct advantages in making what may be a substantial financial purchase from a high street gallery. If a print has been damaged in any way (even on the edges), cut, been poorly mounted or framed, its resale value may be worthless. Finaly, a missing or damaged mount can easily cost £90 to replace.....
That old addage of 'if it's too good to be true' may just be the case when using a purely internet based dealer or auction site.
AS TIME PERMITS WE WILL LIST LIMITED EDITION ARTWORK OF MERIT HERE WITH AN IMAGE.
